ABOUT ME

J. Spence is a non-fiction and early career fiction writer and story artist based in the North East of England who graduated Teesside University with a First Class Honors degree in B.A. Film and TV Production in 2023.

My work specializes in taking established concepts and looking at them with a loving, yet questioning eye. I wouldn’t describe them as being “postmodern”, but simply a perversion of established norms, without being overly critical or mocking of them. There is also a heavy focus on elements happening in both the foreground and background simultaneously; subtle points of interest over two plains in any given scene. The stories told focus on the characters above all, about how they see the world to tell stories, with the focus being placed on what the plot is and why things are happening, as opposed to simply how they are shown to the audience visually on the screen, the aspect of cinema sadly, yet understandably, prioritized by most audiences more often than not.

I am a paid employee in my spare time under an online personality whom I write informative factual content about film and TV on behalf of. Oh, and I'm also a brown leather coat enthusiast, they're cool.
